A Malaysian aid ship carrying food and emergency supplies for hundreds of thousands of Rohingya Muslims who took shelter in Bangladesh has arrived in Chittagong Container Terminal.

The Ship, Nautical Aliya, anchored at the terminal around 11am on Tuesday, Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Ali Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune.

He said the ship’s first stop was in the Myanmar port city of Yangon on February 9 from where it left for Chittagong on Friday.

“The ship is carrying 1472 tonnes of supplies including non-food items,” he added.

The supplies would be taken to Cox’s Bazar for distribution.

Bangladesh government and international agencies say around 70,000 Rohingyas have fled Myanmar since October when the military launched a crackdown in Rakhine state. They have taken shelter in different areas of Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar.
