Members of the US Army and Air Force have conducted a training programme for firefighters on Cox’s Bazar sea beach.

The four-day training, which began on May 18, concluded this morning at the parasailing point of Cox’s Bazar beach, fire service officials said.

Mohammad Tanharul Islam, deputy assistant director of Cox’s Bazar Fire Service and Civil Defence, told this correspondent over the phone that the training was aimed at rescuing victims of floods, tidal surges, and cyclones since Cox’s Bazar is a coastal district.

A total of 15 officers and firefighters from Cox’s Bazar participated in the programme while nine members of the US Army and Air Force provided the training. The training concluded this morning, he said.

“With the support of the US Embassy, the US Army and Air Force provided this training to members of the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence,” said Tanharul Islam.

“Certificates were distributed among the participants at the end of the training,” he said.

The training covered rescue techniques for people trapped during floods and cyclones, including how to save victims drifting in water.

“This training was conducted under the directive of higher authorities,” Tanharul Islam added
