Bailey Road fire: Ukhiyar Shahjalal lost his life along with his wife and children

Shahjalal Uddin (34), a resident of Morichya Bazar, Haldia Palang Union, Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, along with his wife and children died in a fire in a multi-storey building on Bailey Road in the capital.

The family of the deceased Shahjalal’s wife Mehrunnessa Helali Meena and child Fairuz Kashem Jamira were able to identify them from a Facebook page post around 7pm on Friday (01 March). Later, the dead body of Shahjalal was identified from the mortuary of Dhaka Medical College.

Shahjalal Uddin is the 2nd son of the brave freedom fighter Abul Kashem of Morichya Bazar. He was employed as a custom officer in Narayanganj Pangaon Custom House. His wife Mehrunnessa Helali Meena is said to be the daughter of Moktar Helali, a resident of Fatekarkul Union in Ramur.

According to family sources, they went to eat in a food shop on Bailey Road in Dhaka as a family. Then he suffered a fire accident due to gas cylinder leakage.

The bodies of Shahjalal and his wife and children are currently in the mortuary of Dhaka Medical College. Shahjalal’s elder brother Haldia Palang Union Awami League general secretary Shahjahan Saju and other members of his family left for Dhaka to bring the dead body.
