After completion of a six-day border conference between Bangladesh and Myanmar at BGB headquarters in Peelkhana here today, both the countries have agreed to remove Improvised Explosive Device (IED), grenades and mines planted on the zero line areas.

“Both the countries have agreed to remove mines and IED planted on the zero line areas to evade casualties, conduct patrol and border management activities in fair manner,” Additional Director General (ADG) Brig. Gen. Md Anisur Rahman of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) told a press briefing.

The six-day border conference started on April 1, ending today with announcement of a joint declaration.

A 16-member delegation led by BGB ADG Brig Gen. Md. Anisur Rahman attended the conference. The team included officials of the Prime Minister’s Office, home and foreign ministries, Department of Narcotics Control, Survey of Bangladesh and the Department of Land Record and Survey.

Police Force Chief Brig Gen Myo Swe Wing led the six-member delegation of Myanmar at the conference. The delegation members included high officials of Myanmar police and representatives from its embassy in Dhaka.

Replying to a query, Brig Gen Md Anisur Rahman said, “We handed over a list of 49 contraband yaba-making factories to Myanmar authorities seeking immediate measures to close down the factories,” adding that the Myanmar police chief assured of taking effective measures to this end.

About infiltration of Rakhaine in Bangladesh territory, he also said, “Both the countries have decided to share information about illegal infiltration.”

The Myanmar delegation however said that Rakhine people can return their countries if they want, he added.-BSS
